Day 1
Total time: 11 ½ hours aprox. including mainly travelling by bus; not considering the informative stops. Our tour of experiences and adventures will start crossing “From the Andes into the Amazonia”. All our tour programs support directly the local economy visiting the touristic infrastructures from the local entrepreneurs and including too the reforestation programme based on the mitigation of the carbon footprints from our visitors, we choose seed plants from trees like Aguano/Tornillo (Cedrelinga sp.), Aguaje (Mauritia sp.) y Pacae (Inga sp.) Leaving Cusco city (3400masl/11156ft) early in the morning (starting collecting you at 4:00am from your accomodations) with one of our land transport. Touring the interesting interandean valleys and their communities, then after crossing the highest point along the road at 4000masl/13,000ft) we will visit the Pre-Inca archaeological site Ninamarca (3000masl/9842ft), later we will visit the Paucartambo town (3025masl/9924ft) with a Spanish colonial architecture; Cusco folkloric capital where we will visit the very interesting museum. Continuing on we will arrive to the Acjanaco pass (3535masl/11597ft) from here we will start descending to the Cloud Forest to enjoy our box lunch along the road, these is a place with many endemic species like the Cock of the Rock ( Rupicola sp. ) the Peru´s National Bird that we try to spot walking along the road (1200masl/3937ft), also we can observe orchids, bromeliads and tree ferns and with a luck also a troop of Wholly monkeys ( Lagothrix sp. ); continuing by bus about at 2pm we will arrive to the Atalaya pier (500masl/1640ft) to embark on our private boat down the stream of the Alto Madre de Dios river with the chance to see egrets, flight catchers, swallows and neotropical cormorants ( Phalacrocorax sp. ), after about 40 minutes boating, we will arrive to the stone beach from where we will start our trekking until the Machuhuasi pond to visit it on balsa raft with the chance to see birds like the Shansho/Stink bird ( Opisthocomus hoazín ) consider as the lost link between the evolution from reptiles to birds; and the Camungo/Horned screamer ( Anhima cornuta ) with one of the loaders calls from the avian world and we will visit an small tower of observation, after the visit we will enjoy our box lunch and after on we will take our next land transportation the pick up 4x4 to travel until our accomodations the Dorado Lodge (300masl/984ft); during the land transportation we can enjoy the amazonas landscape and the warmer weather too from the tropical rainforest. The next activities are including excursions walking with our Tour Guide along the trails exploring for some hours to see caimans, birds and medicinal plants.
Day 2
Very early in the morning after our delicious breakfast we will start with the reforestation programme in the area of the forest designated, and this is the one that will define the specie of seed plant that we are going to plant in; we will choose the seed plant per participant (Tall forest: Aguano/Tornillo (Cedrelinga sp.) or Pacae (Inga sp.), forest close to swamp/wetland or along water course: Aguaje (Mauritia sp.)) using tools like pickaxe, shovel and machete we will walk until the site where we will do the gps location data for every point for the seed plant planted, we will take pictures during the process and the marking of the seed plant in the “tutor”. Later and after recovering our energies with our snacks we are continuing our visit along the trails to try to see more colorful birds like the Blue and Yellow macaws ( Ara ararauna ), Scarlet macaws ( Ara macao ) or Red and Green macaws ( Ara chloropterus ) and wit luck a troop of Brown Capuchin monkeys ( Sapajus apella ) to get back to the lodge to enjoy our lunch. After a rest we can go for a swimming in the river and also we can do fishing with local traditional technique and luckily we can catch some of the fish too; crossing fingers. After enjoying our dinner we can go for a hike to visit the platform of observation in front of the collpa/mammals claylick where we can wait, crossing fingers, for the largest mammal from the Amazonia the Tapir ( Tapirus terrestris ) to come to lick.
Day 3
Very early in the morning and after a quit hot drink we will star our hike to visit the blind where is the observation point in front of the Collpa/Parrots Claylick to wait, luckily, for the birds to arrive to lick here, species like the very rare Blue Headed macaw ( Primolius couloni ), Chestnut fronted macaw ( Ara severus ) Auroras ( Amazona sp .), Blue headed parrot ( Pionus sp. ), and after the visit/activity we will walk back to the lodge to enjoy our breakfast; sadly this is the time to start our trip back to Cusco first by our land transportation by pick up 4x4 until the location of Villa Salvación and form here on our private minibus we are visiting the Hummingbirds Garden and after this visit we are continuing by bus until Cusco city along the road in the Cloud Forest and to enjoy our box lunch. During our way back and according of the weather situation we can walk along the road in the Cloud Forest with the chance to see some more wildlife activity here. Estimating arriving back to Cusco city is about 5pm aprox. **NOTE: We are offering vegans, vegetarians and also dietary restrictions for all our tours. The order of the activities included on this tour could be changed according on the weather conditions. The weather in the Amazonia is unpredictable, especially during the rainy season (November-January), and the weather conditions could affect the programme because the wildlife will be affected too because the rains. Feel free to coordinate with your Tour Guide about to manage to change the order of the activities or to find the way to do some other activities instead in case of a bad weather situation and remember, our company do not have any responsibility on the weather conditions or on the chance to see wildlife: Enjoy the experience and Good Luck!
