The Manu National Park (PNM) is located in the provinces of Paucartambo in Cusco and Manú in Madre de Dios. Its area is 1716295.22 hectares. Its establishment seeks to protect a representative sample of biological diversity, as well as the landscapes of the lowland jungle, the jungle and the Andes of southeastern Peru. Likewise, it is intended to promote tourism based on ecological and culturally compatible criteria.

    Day 1

    Day 01: CUSCO - CLOUD FOREST - LOW LAND - DORADO LODGE

    Leaving Cusco early, in the morning, we begin a 10-hours journey over the Andes in our private bus, on a road that partly goes up to 13123 ft. We travel through traditional Quechua communities and through the spectacular eastern ranges of the Andes, on the way, we have a few stops, to see the pre-inka cemetery of Ninamarca or to visit the famous folkloric village of Paucartambo (9514 ft). Then we continue to “Acjanaco”, the park’s entrance from here we descend the eastern slopes of the Andes through cloud forest with lush vegetation (bromeliads, ferns, orchids etc.) in the cloud forest we can see wildlife such as our national bird: the bright red, Cock of the Rock (Rupicola peruviana) showing his mating dance. Quetzals, Trogons, brilliantly colored Tanagers can be seen and possibly the first monkeys, such as capuchin monkey or Woolly Monkeys. we are continuing on our bus passing by Pillcopata (1729ft) and later arriving to the Atalaya port (1640ft) set on the Alto Madre de Dios river banks, from here we are starting boating down the stream to get the chance to enjoy the high diversity on birds species like egrets, vulture, cormorants, afrterwards going by boat to navigate until our accommodations at the Dorado Lodge (986 ft), during the boating we can enjoy our lunch in the boat. We have the chance to visit the platform of observation at the mammals claylick área, arriving after a hike along the trail system. Night walk on the lodge’s paths to observe the nocturnal fauna.

    Day 2

    Day 02: DORADO LODGE - MATSIGUENKA HOUSE - OTORONGO LAKE

    Total time 10 hours, not considering stops for lunch and stops. With the first light of the day, we begin to travel by boat in the direction of the Manu National Park entering just after the confluence of the Alto Madre de Dios and Manu rivers, we will stop briefly at the Limonal ranger station (1017 ft) to sign the guest book of the Reserve Zone. Returning to our boat, we will go up the Manu River and at the same time we will enjoy our breakfast, leaving behind the western facilities to enter the tourist area for approximately 5 hours to the Salvador oxbow lake, where we will spend the next two nights at the Casa Machiguenga. During the navigation we can enjoy our lunch and at the same time a great variety of birds such as macaws, egrets, spoonbills and good chances of seeing capybaras, alligators, turtles, monkeys eating from the trees in the surroundings, and with more luck a wild cat sunbathing on the beaches. After arriving, we can go on a wildlife hike along the great trail system in this pristine rainforest. where the sensation is unique, since we are in an ecosystem that has remained unchanged since the formation of the amazon. And a visit to the lake of Cocha Otorongo is planned, where a 20-meter observation tower in the rainforest canopy overlooking the lake is available for observing wildlife. We spend our second night at the Casa Machiguenga (1213 feet).

    Day 3

    Day 03: CASA MATSIGUENKA - COCHA SALVADOR

    According to the reservation list at the limonal ranger station, we are allowed to visit Salvador Lake by catamaran with the best chance of meeting the giant otters family there, then we continue to explore the surroundings from virgin jungle along the trail system to return. to our accommodation for lunch at Casa Matsiguenka, after having the opportunity to interact with our Matsiguenka friends and their culture, after dinner we still exploring night walk. Overnight in the accommodation: Casa Matsiguenka (1213ft)

    Day 4

    Day 04: CASA MATSIGUENKA - DORADO LODGE

    Total time 9 hours, mainly including the boat trip; without considering the informative stops and for the toilet service. Today we start with a very early breakfast and waiting until our boat is ready, we go by boat to the Limonal ranger station (1017 ft) for about 4 hours or so and then continue up the Alto Madre de God. river for about 1 hour and a half to the Diamante native community to visit our friends here, after the visit we go by boat for about 1 hour and a half or so to Dorado Lodge (986 ft), during navigation we are enjoying our food. Arriving at the accommodations we can explore the trails and returning to dinner, after dinner we can take a night walk. Overnight in the accommodations: Dorado Lodge (986ft)

    Day 5

    Day 05: DORADO LODGE - ALTO MADRE DE DIOS RIVER - ATALAYA - BAMBU LODGE

    Total time 9 hours including mainly the boat and bus; without considering the informative stops and for the cleaning service. Very early in the morning we will go to visit the parrot and macaw clay lick and with luck, see them licking the minerals from the site, after this we will return to the accommodations to enjoy our breakfast and then we will start traveling by boat. Upstream of the Alto Madre de Dios River We will also have a stop at the Shintuya thermal baths which are thermo-medicinal waters for relaxation and healing. After we will continue to the port of Atalaya (1640 ft) where our ground transportation awaits us to go to the Cloud Forest lodgings; We can take a hike on the trails here; our tour guide will show us and explain more about the diversity of nature in the surroundings. Overnight in the accommodations: Cloud Forest (3248 ft).

    Day 06: BAMBU LODGE - CLOUD FOREST - CUSCO

    Duration: Total time 9 hours including mainly bus trips; not considering stops for lunch and cleaning services. After enjoying our breakfast with the beautiful view of the activity outside in the gardens like hummingbirds, we collect our backpacks to begin our bus trip back to Cusco, crossing the Andes, enjoying our lunch in the town of Paucartambo (9924 ft) and arriving around 5pm more or less in the city of Cusco (11156ft).
