Day 1
Day 01: CUSCO - CLOUD FOREST - DORADO LODGE
We will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning, and start our journey in our private minivan, ascending to the high-mountain area at 4000 meters above sea level. Our first stop will be a guided visit to Ninamarca Pre-inca funeral towers where you can photograph and got information, then we will continue to Paucartambo town, recognized by the UNWTO as "one of the best tourist towns in the world." Our guide will provide you with information about this charming town. Our next stop will be in Acjanacu the beginning point of the Manu National Park, we will then continue by van, enjoying spectacular views of the biodiversity of the Manu region, descending along the eastern slope of the Andes. We will pass through the cloud forest, where you can admire the lush vegetation (ferns, orchids, bromeliads, etc.). During our walks, you may spot various species of birds including tanagers, quetzals, toucans, and brightly colored hummingbirds, as well as hawks and monkeys. Our main activity will be to search the national bird of Peru, the cock of the rock ( Rupicola peruviana) in the San Pedro area. Then we will continue our journey with a some stops along the route until we reach to Salvación, town and here we will change our transport from our minivan to our 4x4 pickup truck for another two hours of travel to reach the Dorado Lodge (350 meters above sea level), where we will spend the night (double rooms with private bathrooms). Day 2
Day 02: DORADO LODGE – COCHA BRASHCO – TAPIR CLAY LICK
Very early in the morning we will embark on our motor boat and sail on the upper Madre de Dios River. Downstream we will have our breakfast on the boat while we head to the Limonal checkpoint, where the park rangers welcome us and give us brief information about the Park. Manu National. Then, we continue traveling by boat along the Manu River, depending on the weather, we will have the possibility of observing different species of birds, macaws, eagles, etc., mammals such as the jaguar ( Panther onca ), capybaras, tapirs, monkeys, etc. Reptiles such as 4 meter black caiman ( Melanosuchus niger ), white caiman ( Caiman crocodrylus ), anaconda ( Eunectes murinus ), taricayas ( Podocnemis unifilis ). We arrive at the port, disembark to explore the jungle in the middle of immense trees, we will walk along the trails watching and listening to the sounds of birds, mammals, howls, etc. until we reach the Brashco lake where we will sail into the lake on the catamaran to observe families of giant otters ( Pteronura briasiliensis ). After our activity, we will return to our boat, while we sail we will enjoy a typical jungle lunch. On the way we will make a brief stop in the native community of Diamante to contribute to them by buying crafts, typical products like a fish, manioc, and papaya. We continue by boat until we reach our Lodge, before or after dinner we will take a night walk where we can find tarantulas, snakes, spiders, frogs, nocturnal birds, etc. Night walk visit tapir clay lick. Day 3
Day 03: DORADO LODGE - PARROT AND MACAW CLAY LICK - CUSCO
Very early in the morning we will go to visit the parrot and macaw clay lick. It is a special place where you can see the natural spectacle of parrots, where they come down to eat clay that helps them with digestion, among the species we can see auroras, parakeets, parrots, the military macaw, blue-headed macaw, chestnut-fronted macaw, etc. Bolivian macaws and scarlet macaws can be seen perching in the trees. After the activity we return to the lodge, have our breakfast and pack our things to return, we board the 4x4 trucks for a 2-hour tour, spotting flora and fauna, we will once again cross the rivers and streams that are part of the road, passing through the indigenous villages until we reach the town of Salvación where we will change our truck for the minivan. We continue in our van on the way, we will make a brief stop in the town of Pilcopata where we will contribute to the local people by buying the fruit juices and ice creams of each season (cupuaçu, buriti, pineapple, cocona, etc.). We board our van to return to Cusco, we will end our adventure tired but happy and glad to have visited the Lung of the World, leaving you at your respective hotels.
