We’ll depart very early from Cusco in our private vehicle, traveling through the breathtaking landscapes of the Andes and traditional Quechua communities. Along the way, we’ll make a stop to visit the pre-Inca cemetery at Ninamarca or explore the picturesque town of Paucartambo, known for its traditions and rich culture. We’ll continue on to Acjanaco, the gateway to Manu National Park, and then descend the eastern slopes of the Andes into the fascinating cloud forest. Along the way, we’ll admire lush vegetation—including ferns, bromeliads, and orchids—and have the chance to spot various bird species, such as the iconic cock-of-the-rock, quetzals, trogons, and colorful tanagers. With any luck, we’ll also catch a glimpse of our first monkeys in the wild. By late afternoon, we’ll arrive at the Cock of the Rock Lodge, surrounded by nature, where we’ll enjoy our first night deep in the jungle.
After an early breakfast, we’ll continue our journey by land to Pilcopata and the port of Atalaya, on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River. From there, we’ll board our tour boat to travel downstream, enjoying the Amazonian scenery and the opportunity to spot a wide variety of birds, such as herons, vultures, and cormorants. During the excursion, we’ll visit Machuwasi Lagoon, a natural setting ideal for wildlife viewing, where we may spot the unique hoatzin—known for its distinctive digestive system—as well as other bird species native to the Amazon. Afterward, we’ll return to our boat to continue the tour and visit the hot springs, where we can relax and enjoy lunch surrounded by nature. Then, we’ll sail downstream until we reach Dorado Lodge, our lodging in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. After settling into our double rooms with private bathrooms, we’ll enjoy dinner, and as night falls, we’ll take a night walk along the lodge’s trails to discover the sounds and fascinating nocturnal wildlife of the Amazon.
Today we’ll venture into the fascinating Reserved Zone of Manu National Park, traveling along the iconic Manu River—one of the best places to discover the extraordinary biodiversity of the Peruvian Amazon. In the morning, conditions permitting, we’ll visit a parrot and parakeet clay lick, where numerous birds gather to eat clay. Among the species we may spot are chestnut-fronted parrots, blue-headed parrots, and, with any luck, some macaws. Afterward, we’ll board our boat to navigate the Madre de Dios River and continue toward the Reserved Zone of Manu National Park. We’ll make a brief stop at the Limonal checkpoint to register our visit and then continue navigating for several hours along the Manu River, surrounded by Amazonian landscapes and an extraordinary diversity of wildlife. During the journey, we’ll have the opportunity to spot birds, capybaras, various species of monkeys, and caimans. With a little luck, we may also catch a glimpse of the majestic jaguar in its natural habitat. Before arriving at our lodging, we’ll visit Cocha Otorongo, where we’ll hike along a trail to an observation tower—the perfect spot to take in the natural surroundings and look for wildlife. We’ll also see an impressive ceiba tree, one of the Amazon rainforest’s iconic trees. Finally, we’ll continue by boat and take a short walk to Jaguar Camp, a lodge located in the heart of the Manu Reserved Zone. Here, we’ll enjoy the tranquility of the jungle and spend the night in double rooms with shared bathrooms.
This day will be dedicated to exploring some of the most fascinating corners of the Reserved Zone of Manu National Park. Depending on availability and permits from the Limonal checkpoint, we will visit the iconic Cocha Salvador, where we will take a catamaran tour to observe the extraordinary biodiversity of this ecosystem. This lagoon is one of Manu’s main attractions and serves as the habitat for a family of giant otters, which we’ll have the chance to spot if they’re active. During the tour, we’ll also be able to see various species of birds, caimans, and capuchin monkeys, as well as enjoy the unique landscapes surrounding the lagoon. Mid-morning, we’ll visit a macaw clay lick, where, if conditions are favorable, we’ll be able to observe these colorful birds in their natural habitat. Afterward, we’ll visit the Matsiguenka family to learn a bit about their customs, then return to our boat to enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the trails on the other side of the Manu River, venturing deep into the Amazon rainforest. During the hike, we’ll look for different species of wildlife, such as woolly monkeys, while discovering the richness of an ecosystem of extraordinary ecological value that has been preserved over time. At the end of the day, we'll return to Jaguar Camp to rest and enjoy an evening surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.
We’ll start the day very early with breakfast and get ready to begin our return journey down the Manu River, enjoying the scenery and biodiversity along the way until we reach the Limonal checkpoint. After a brief stop at the checkpoint, we’ll continue navigating down the Alto Madre de Dios River until we reach the indigenous community of Diamante, where we’ll have the opportunity to spend some time with the locals, learn more about their Amazonian culture and traditions, and admire their local handicrafts—perfect as souvenirs of this experience. Once the visit is over, we’ll board our boat again to continue our journey downstream to Dorado Lodge. During the journey, we’ll enjoy lunch and take in the natural landscapes of the jungle. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the lodge’s trails accompanied by our guide, with the chance to discover new species of Amazonian flora and fauna. After the hike, we’ll return to the lodge to enjoy dinner and relax surrounded by nature.
Very early in the morning, after breakfast, we’ll collect our luggage and walk to the highway, where our 4x4 vehicle will be waiting to take us to Salvación. From there, we’ll continue our journey on our tour bus along the Manu Community Integration Route, passing through the diverse ecosystems of the Amazon, the cloud forest, and the breathtaking Andean landscapes. During the trip, we’ll stop in Paucartambo to enjoy lunch and explore the surroundings of this traditional Andean town. Then, we’ll continue our journey across the Andes mountain range until we reach the city of Cusco, at approximately 5:00 p.m. Upon arrival, we’ll transfer you to your hotel, bringing this unforgettable adventure through Manu National Park to a close. End of our services.
