Ancient Inca legend has it that the beginning of time, God Wiracocha out of Lake Titicaca and created the sun, earth and man.
East of the peninsula Capachica and about 40 kms from the city of Puno, rises from the deep blue waters of Lake Titicaca Amantani Island. From afar the ancient terraces, built in pre-Columbian times loom. On the island you can admire sacred sites of pre-Inca cultures Pukara, Lupaka and Inca culture.
Until the middle of the twentieth century the island was a land of farmers. Finally, after several uprisings, the people of Amantaní managed to expel the landowners to take possession of the lands which were worked by them. Currently about 4000 people live on the island. They are mostly farmers, who speak their native Quechua language and castellano.Que like their ancestors live in adobe houses and engaged in raising sheep and agriculture. In the countless platforms they grow potatoes, oca, barley and “the grain of the Incas” quinoa.
This island of Amantani is peaceful and beautiful as the island of Taquile but greater extent, on top of its highest hills there are two temples “Pachatata” and “Pachamama”, from here the view of the highest lake in the world imposes its wonder in the eyes of the world. After moving from hotel to port, boarded the boat for the tour, first visiting the Uros Floating Islands for a period of 40 minutes, then we continued our journey for 03 hrs. and a half, slicing through the wonderful and calm waters of Lake Titicaca, sailing to arrive at our destination, the island of Amantani, where the inhabitants of the island disappoint us, giving us food and lodging for a day. The second day, return to Puno, visit the island of Taquile, where we have to make a 45-minute walk to reach the population and to appreciate the attractions of the island; we will visit 02 hours and after lunch on the island return to the city of Puno.
